Hi,

I have a DAC that says HMEGA 7250 Headphone Pro-Amp and looks somethinglike this :

Im guessint that its really a BT928.

The sound is a bit moody even when the left nob is MAX. I have seen modifications done to this unit, is it worth it? Or should I just buy a Pro-Ject Head Box II?

If you think that I should mod it, what is the best mod for this unit? Im looking for a balanced sound but most a clear sound.

You could do something like this http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/B-tech.htm
Id put in a IC socket so you can try out a few different op amp's and swap out the cap's like what was done in that link. Don't bother replacing resistors that's pointless long as they are the right resistance. Then maybe get rid of the tone control like here http://rockgrotto.proboards.com/thread/7879/bt928-broke-bad-start

I have a pyle branded amp thats vary similar and stock its horrible but a few mods does make it usable. You should also try it off battery power too, so you can compare against psu so see if it's adding noise (which it most likely is) so it will probably need some filtering and you can find info on that here at head fi.
