Well, I'm gonna admit that I've been listening to the same music for years. I REALLY think it's time to add a few new albums to my playlist. The problem is, I don't know where to start.

My favorite artists include, in alphabetical order..

ABBA, Adele, Andrea Bocelli, Beethoven, Bjork, Caravan Palace, Carla Bruni, Coeur De Pirate, Colbie Caillat, Diana Krall (don't hate anti-Krall haters), Eminem (not modern Em... Sigh), James Blunt, Johann Sebastian Bach, Madeleine Peyroux, Mariah Carey, Miles Davis, Nas, Nirvana, Norah Jones, Radiohead, Sarah McLachlan, Skream, Skrillex, Sophie Milman, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift (an unusual satisfaction... Her album "Red" is oddly satisfying), The Notorious B.I.G, Xzibit, Yelle, and 2pac.

As you can see, I don't really have a specific genre. I like a lot of everything. But you may also notice that I'm not a huge rock/metal listener. I just don't know enough about rock and metal (even though I have Grados. funny) to start listening to it. I'm fairly open to every genre, but I never really look for rock music. If I had to list which genre I like the most, it would be either Jazz or anything with wonderful vocals. I have a soft spot for female vocals, but I do appreciate male vocals as well.

Please reply with anything that I might enjoy and I will give it a listen and if I like it enough, I will buy the CD. The list I provided sort of gives a general idea of what I listen to mostly and maybe you amazing Head-Fiers will be able to use it as a guide in order to aid me!

Please reply with Artist AND Album! Thank you!

Looking at your tastes, here's some albums you might enjoy, if you're not familiar with them already. There is some rock, but if you like Radiohead and Nirvana you'll probably like this stuff.

Kate Bush: Hounds of Love
Brian Eno: Here Come the Warm Jets
Talk Talk: The Colour of Spring
John Coltrane: A Love Supreme
Charles Mingus: The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Frank Zappa: Hot Rats
Wu-Tang Clan: Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
GZA: Liquid Swords
A Tribe Called Quest: The Low End Theory
My Bloody Valentine: Loveless
Pixies: Doolittle
The Smiths: The Queen is Dead

Thanks for the response. Great selection! So far, Brain Eno, Wu-Tang, My Bloody Valentine, and the Pixies are very promising as I feel these match my music tastes very well. The others are currently in decision and re-listening session

Wow Brooko, thanks for taking the time to find the youtube links as well. REALLY saved me time. I can sense a bit of similarity between this list and my tastes!

No problem.  Apart from the rap you listed, we have some similarity in our tastes - so quite happy to introduce you to a number of artists I've found over the last few years (as my music library has really expanded).

Just let me know which ones hit the spot, which ones miss, and we can take it from there.

I've wrote down Anna Nalick, Florence & The Machine, Seether, Portico Quartet (really liked this one), The Flashbulb, and Porcupine Tree.

Strangely, I've never really liked Opera... The only classical I only enjoy is strings, particularly the Cello and Piano. Also, I'm quite picky with Rock as well. The only bands that really made sense to me are Nirvana, Rage Against The Machines, Radiohead (if you can call that rock, but more alternative), Audioslave, and some Metallica. Rock is really tricky with me, and so is classical.

OK - I'll have another look when I get home tonight.

BTW - the Seether album is a one-off.  They're really a hard-rock band - but their unplugged album is simply excellent.  Wish they'd do another acoustic album - but it's not really their thing.  Have you heard any Pearl Jam?  If you like Nirvana (I do) - then Pearl Jam is pretty much a given that it'll be to your taste.  They released a double album "Rearview Mirror" that pretty much encapsulates their more popular tracks.  Its a great start, then you can work back to the individual albums if you need to.

Understand on the classical - I'm more violin than cello (Julia Fischer is a favourite - Tchaikovsky's violin concertos), but share the like for piano (if you haven't heard it, Helene Grimaud's album "Resonances" is really good).

Portico Quartet is amazing - their whole album is actually - really worth buying.  I only discovered them this year.

Will rummage around the CD stack over next couple of days and see what else I think will fit.  Word to the wise though - once your musical horizons start expanding, it can get as much (if not more) expensive than buying gear!  In the last year alone, I've probably spent $1500 on CDs / high-res downloads.

Yeah, I remember Seether doing more harder stuff that this, but I REALLY like this album. It's very well recorded as well (I just downloaded a FLAC album right now).

I'll take a look at Helene Grimaud.

The One Cold Night album I bought had both CD and DVD - worth buying the actual media, rather than just a download.
