I have the dual core iHiFi 960, and the sound quality is excellent.  For some reason, my player does have a tendency to randomly freeze up while playing flac files from the microsd card, but plays flac files flawlessly from the internal memory.  The dual core version is now selling for less on eBay than the 2 previous versions of the 960; I'm not sure why this is.  
 
BUT, I would STRONGLY advise any of you who are reading this post to AVOID the eBay vendor listed by Vern here

In my own personal experience, this vendor who goes by "annie audio" sells defective players (? factory rejects) and is not an honest businessman. He has taken my money and I have nothing to show for it.  I would HIGHLY suggest that you deal with other vendors on eBAY such as "bigbargainonline" (same as Penon Audio) or "24ishop".  These vendors are reputable and honest and you will have a much more pleasant shopping experience if you take my advice..

If you can hold the player and look at the back plate, there is writing near the bottom. The original 960 has something simple like "ihifi 960" written on it. The 2nd version (in which lpf opamp was changed) has something like "ihifi 960 modify" written on it. The 3rd version, which is the dual core version has "ihifi dual core version" written on it. The only other easy way to tell the difference in the dual core vs the 2 older models is by looking at the volume knob. The volume knob has a larger diameter than the other 2; also the metal plate under the volume knob has kind of a split level design, while the plate on the earlier versions is more of a single level style.
