I've recently become interested in vinyls, and today I received my first (free) record player, a sony ps lx40. There was a Richard Marx record in it, sounded great, everything seemed to work. Like I said, this is my first record player and don't really have much of an idea on speakers, amps and so on. I was more of a headphone guy until now so
At the moment I have it connected to a (about 10 year old) yamaha stereo with crappy 5:1 speakers to go with.
I assume the record player I have is probably far from great but I think its time the speakers got an upgrade before anything else. I'm not sure if going with active or passive speakers is the way to go. I think an amp/stereo might be the way to go since I would want to run the tv through the speakers as well. I have no idea what sort of prices I'm looking at but my budget is probably around $500 aud.
In terms of amps and so on, could I also buy an equalizer for the setup?
I should mention I'll mainly be listening to rap and hip hop but that's not all. I won't be DJing.
Any help is greatly appreciated
