New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

I'm from Europe, if I go for A306/7 I know I have to go for an Asian one, I own a A105, and for people that came from A105, I want to ask their opinion if the screen is brighter??, is it more useable at the beach? We I live there's a lot of sunshine and I mostly use it on outdoor activites, and I guess battery is better on A307? Thanks in advance

Screen seems the same to me.

I think I'm having an issue on my Japanese A306 with volume that I haven't read about in this thread. The stock player is roughly 50 volume steps louder than any other music player. Is this normal? In comparison, the stock player is just too loud now that I know about this.

I've tested the volume with YouTube, YT Music, Plexamp, Amazon Music, and Google Files music player. I've already done a lot of troubleshooting. Direct mode is enabled. Since I normally use Plexamp, I started by disabling loudness leveling, EQ, and limiter, none of which helped to raise the volume to match the stock player.

edit: forgot to mention that I'm listening through wired IEMs using the 3.5mm jack

Aha. This was a case of "RTFM" as I read the manual and saw the relevant "Note" here https://helpguide.sony.net/dmp/1301/v1/en/contents/TP1000733590.html:
> "The volume level may be too high or too low when you listen to music using an app other than “Music player”."
> "Tap ... (Setting) on the volume panel, and adjust the volume level for [Media volume]. "

I'm not surprised this was user error :)

This just happened to me using a BT receiver. Somehow the 'media' volume got turned down and my hiby app was super low volume, I was like wt f? I swear I didn't mess with it- but it could have been the bt unit somehow turned it down. 😅 live and learn.

That is a really astute observation that sounds just like how I reacted. Today I noticed that the "Media" volume went back to 50% as before! I retraced my actions and found that this happens when I use Plexamp to cast to a Chromecast Audio. It sounds like there's more than one way for this to happen, so I'm assuming it's something to do with handing off audio to a streamer. I guess at least I know I'm not haunted.

This is probably my own RTFM moment but I can’t get the absolute volume off while using Bluetooth. With my main home setup I like absolute volume. But I’d like to control volume with the 306 for other situations. I changed it in developer options and I think I have it set right in poweramp as well but it’s still stuck on absolute volume whenever I Bluetooth. Any ideas of what I’m missing?

I've got a friend bringing back hopefully a flip top official case from Japan at the end of the week. Then I'll choose which one to have but love this. Very good quality and definitely worth it regards GJ
Can anyone confirm if this case will still fit if a tempered glass screen protector is installed on the player, or will it be too tight?

I haven't got a added screen on mine but I don't think it'll be a problem as the material has a bit of give. Where are you getting the screen from?

Thanks for the info, do you think the front panel is a high enough quality that it doesn't need a screen protector?

This is the one I ordered:

AudioPartner 9H Scratch-Proof Premium Front LCD Screen Protector Guard Tempered Glass Protective Film for Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series NW-A306 NW-A307 (2pcs)

I will have the nw-A306 in few days- does anybody know / tested if it supports SPDIF (coaxial & digital) audio output from USB-C ? Like the Hiby R6 III does with CR-06 dock. Couldn’t find anything on Sony 306 specs about it.
