Looks like a new Walkman has quietly been released the: E390. series.
 
Available in 4, 8 & 16gb although larger capacity E395 not for the UK yet, which is not the first time we've missed out. Weighs only 39 grams with up to 50 hours battery life. Certainly looks nicer, especially in blue, than its slightly cheap looking predecessor IMO.

Well it will sound decent, and actually work properly unlike some of the more specialised 'junk'
 
Also it wont be £75 for long at sixty it'll not be a bad simple mp3 player like they used to make em

Should add, It's main problem will be the excellent E585 that is just £85 now on Amazon has 16gb. Plays flac and Alac and has upto 77 hours battery life.

Looks like it has the volume controls on the side which is a plus.
 
Comes with the earbuds instead of the EX300 (which came in the earlier cheaper models), and to me were great sounding earphones just out of the laptop esp. for movies and dance music.

Hi,
I recently bought the device to see what its based on. I posted the pictures at http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SonyNWE390 and as you can see it is based on the RKNanoD. The fact sheet of the RKNanoD (see attached pdf at http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/RockChipNanoD) claims to have a 24-bit/192 kHz DAC with 100dB SNR. I could not access the other side of the PCB yet so I have no idea what the amplifier is.
After a very informal test of the device, I think that its sounds decent but I am not an expert so I leave the test to someone with good hears I should add that compared to the previous "low-cost" generation from Sony (NWZ-E380), they finally put back the dedicated volume keys and a physical hold button, which is really a must. Also the device has a better form factor. Overall the UI is decent (it's the one Sony uses in virtually all the players) but feels slow. However the album art display is completely broken for me (not that I care really). I am not entirely surprised since the RKNanoD only has 1MiB of RAM. What is entirely unacceptable though is the (very) small list of supported formats.

I have one of these at home somewhere, good for the occasional walk whilst listening to a podcast or the radio, but without an SD card slot, there isn't much room for music storage
