Tri-ports have competition? I always thought they were in a class of their own, the $150 headphone that sounds like a $60 headphone class.

MDR-D777... I suppose this is sony's way of reintroducing the D77 eggo but with less product for the money as is the trend. I'll stick with my D77.

Sorry about that...looking back at the thread title that is the way it looks...I will change it.

Now that you mention it...does look a lot like my old eggos...

Same. Supposedly Sony was working on a higher model than the SA5000 that was slightly more sensible than the Qualia, but I don't know if anything will ever come of it.

Eggos really wouldn't be my nomination for the term "high end".

i may be reading too much into this, but if sony is releasing a "portable" headphone capable of reproducing frequencies up to 80,000 Hz could that mean they are planning on releasing a portable player that could take advantage of that ability?

Those 80 Sony kHz will probably be more in line with ~25 Sennheiser kHz. I mean, a 8 .. 80000 Hz response with 40 mm drivers, that must be at least 20 dB down. These are some of the most ridiculously inflated specs ever, only topped by cheapo speaker systems stating "6 Watt RMS / 120 Watt P.M.P.O.".

ditto to that. i'm appreciating my D77s all the more.

these D777s just aren't doing it for me. honestly, nothing very appealing here and the price A/C is selling it for isn't helping ($225? What?):
