Just got a pair of se846 and am using with Creative Zen Vision M.
the ZVM is beginning to fail (hardrive issues - wont turn off - have to let it time out after 5 minutes).
 
Also, even though  I like the way the ZVM sounds, I will want a better sound.
 
Which DAPS have a similar sound, only better?

Since your unlikely to find many ex Creative Zen Vision M users, I thought id respond.

I had one for years, and now just use my iPhone 6. I always liked the warmth and fullness of the ZVM and would think
the Fiio X5 is more similar to it than the ibasso x90 (which is less colored). This has no easy answer.

There are thousands of posts comparing the x5 and dx90 and each has its fans.
I cannot comment on the A&K or Pono etc.

Can you find a place where you can audition these DAPS?

I live near B&H, Adorama but i dont believe i can just go in and listen to these. Its a shame to have to buy
something without test driving it.
 

Fiio X5, iBasso DX50, DX90, Sony walkmen with digital AMPs(A17) offers better soundquality than average DAPs.

 
Its good to know i cant buy a "bad" DAP, but it would be nice to get the very best match for the se846.
I know its a matter of taste, i just thought someone who already had a ZVM and also has one of these newer DAPS
can shed some light as to which one sounds similar.
