Ok, I see there are some Rio karma's selling on ebay from germany, They are returned goods, and untested. They are sold as defective

but you can get one very cheaply , would it be worth the risk?

I wouldn't go for it if it's defective, no, since Rio are no longer in business and if you need to get it repaired in any way it'll be considerably harder than most other companies/MP3 players.

It's a hit or miss, but the HDDs on these aren't very well protected. I would recommend biting the bullet and going with something from cowon instead.

Surely if you're buying new from a retailer, you have a 12 month warranty anyway? In the UK, anyway...

Have to say that, having owned one, I wouldn't buy another Karma. Yes, the SQ was great, and yes, the dock with lineout is very cool. But the UI was... 'meh', and the build quality was either shoddy or just not designed for use... anywhere.
