Hi, I'm thinking about buying better phones for portable use, what to buy that won't break the bank? I don't like in-ear stuff and I don't like phones that emphasize the bass too much. Please give me some input.

I love my Sennheiser PX-100s. They are much more reasonably balanced than the Koss. There's still a bass hump, but it doesn't overpower. They fold up nice and small too.

See ya

Thanks Steve, the px 100's get some nice reviews, I will consider them.

Some of the Koss line comes highly recommended (KSC-35/75, PortaPro), but you said you don't want too much bass, which is what these phones are known for. You also don't want anything in-ear, which further limits your choices. That basically leaves you with the PX100.

The Audio-Technica clip on phones are known to be mild on the bass. They aren't exactly the cheapest in the world though.

does your portable MP3 player have an EQ? If so, just turn the bass down on a pair of KSC75 or portapro. Best bang for the buck IMHO.

I want to spend no more than $60 for portables, isolation is not too important.
