From Onkyo:

The quality of Onkyo’s PD-S10 DAP is evident in the hand-selected components such as the dual ESS SABRE® ESS9018C2M DACs and dual SABRE® ESS9601K amps, which are integrated on separate circuit boards to provide a fully balanced circuit structure. In addition to the new circuit-board design, new large-capacity conductive polymer chip capacitors double power supply capacitance, reducing the impact of noise particularly around the DSP and memory processing circuits.

The design approach for structure, parts, and circuit layout are all centered on achieving lossless source reproduction so users can enjoy Hi-Res Audio in native DSD 5.6 MHz, MQA, FLAC/WAV/ALAC up to 192 kHz/32-bit.

Based on specs, it is assuredly not an upgrade of the fine X1A, but more of a "Why Bother?" to the DP-S1. Lacks aptX, no change of dac or amp, no change in battery life.

Only significant difference I can see is a new ability to utilize OTG and use the player itself as an external dac. Though I thought the DP-S1 could, after a firmware update, but I could be wrong. (Please correct me if I am wrong!)

I see no reason to purchase the PD-S10B over the DP-S1.

Looks like they went from 24 to 32 bit support as well. I think you’re right. Sidegrade at best.

Sound quality on this DAP is better than on the X1A! It is the only DAP capable of streaming MQA music from Tidal and it sounds fantastic! The X1A is an Android device while the DP-S10B is Linux. There is NO support - yet - from Tidal to allow MQA streaming on Android OS. (or iOS)
If Tidal MQA ir Deezer HiFi is your thing.... then the answer right now is the PD-S10B. Enjoy!

I'm glad you like the S10, and your excitement is evident.

I would like to point out that the S10 is not the only DAP capable of Tidal MQA. Onkyo's own line of players have MQA from Tidal, iirc.

Tidal does allow for MQA streaming out of Android OS. I'm currently listening to Tidal MQA out of the Essential Phone through a Sony A45. Both devices are MQA certified. The Essential Phone is on Android 9.0.

Still, I'm glad you're enjoying the S10. It looks like a great devices, and I hope it brings you many, many hours of music bliss.

Thanks for the correction Victorfabius!
I checked with Tidal about MQA streaming support on Onkyo Android devices, (which use Android 5.x) and they said it was not supported yet. Fortunately, later Android OS do support MQA streaming on devices such as the Essential Phone and Sony A45. The more the merrier!
Enjoy.

Envoy.

It has been a while since I've used the DP-X1, so I cannot say about Tidal direct. I can say that UAPP has a wonderful licensing agreement and allows for MQA on many more compatible devices. But I did do a short check and I will concede the point on 5.X! I will also second the thought: The more support the merrier!

I have to confess: even though I don't think I can hear any difference between CD and MQA, I still listen to MQA over CD whenever it is an option. Every time.

Happy listening!

Yeah, agree with you about Tidal Masters via the excellent UAPP app on the DP-X1, but I have drop out issues when listening to Tidal via Bluetooth. Sometimes for as long as 15 seconds and even stops completely. It's OK when connected by cable to IEMs, but I like to be cable free when I'm out & about, so this is really annoying. Of course it could just be my DAP that's the problem.
