1969 at Fillmore West arrived today. Beautifully packaged. Three HDCD discs in a booklet containing a story and lots of photos. Recording is good, but not quite as good as one of the 1970-02-11 torrents I have. Performances are nice to incredible. Expecting Closing of Winterland any day now.

"The Closing of Winterland, December 31, 1973" arrived today. Four HDCDs in a standard thick jewel case. Nice little booklet, but nothing remarkable packaging wise. Nice recording. A little boomie, but better than the 1969 at Fillmore West recordings of yesterday. Have only listened to "Sugar Magnolia" and "Scarlet Begonias" so far. Looking forward to the rest. Cover scans:

I thought I was the only one who ever noticed this, I find disc 4 to have the best SQ of the lot. Norman is a very inconsistant mastering engineer.



I highly recommend the new Road Trips, its fall '71 which is rare in of itself and Norman did a terrific job with the bass and drums vs most '71 SBD's. I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

No doubt that Disc 4 is the best sounding of that show - this was always the case, even back when we just had the circulating tapes - the third set was always one of the most spectacular sounding cassettes there was, but the first set was actually pretty poor sounding. They fixed it up pretty good for the official release, but there is no doubt that Set 1 sounds worse than Set 3 - Set 3 is some of the best sounding live GD there is.

Huuuuuge difference between 1973 and 1978. For the newly interested, I highly recommend sticking around 1972-1973 first, they were much more consistent. Also again, don't forget Hundred Year Hall!! Undeniable proof of the band's mystic powers.

Get the hundred year hall outtakes so you can put together the complete concert.

I got my "Road Trips" Vol 3 No 2 - Austin 11-15-71 yesterday. Typically good 1971 sound. Very enjoyable listen. Amazingly, I did not have this show in any form and had never heard a note of it. Good stuff! I never liked having "El Paso" in the middle of "Dark Star", but the show in general is terrific.

Ok so this thread got jones for new miller boards going again. With over 300 flac (not all miller of course) shows you'd think I had enough. But I have been away from it for a while and 24 bit grabbed me. While I am waiting for the torrent to download, i put on a Charlie Miller in honor of this thread...

I always thought it was a kinda cool cowboy/hippie joke to slide some old C&W into an amazing trip to the stars and back. Might have even helped me get my bearings for a minute or two. Was always partial to the me & my uncle interlude tho....

The early 73 shows that had Eyes out of the really gnarly Dark Stars accomplished that nicely - the return to the real world after the insanity of the post-melody Dark Star segment...but El Paso??? That just didn't flow. But OMGWAMS
