So I've read threads here for years now, this has to be the foremost forum for everything audio!

I finally have a queStion- for all the gurus here.

I have my 360 xbox- optical to dss2, hd 598 headphones to dss2. Mixamp to aux in on dss2- modmic external mike to mixamp.

I recently purchased a fiio e09k to boost my headphones. Where the heck do I connect this? In what order?

You will need to use the Headphone jack on the dss2. Keep in mind you are double amplifying the signal though.

Just so I get this right- connection wise;
Xbox optical out---> dss2 line in
Dss2 headphone out ---> fiio e09k ?
Pre out
Line out
Aux In

Headphones plug into e09k

Is there any cause for concern connecting to the wrong e09k connections?

Any risk to headphones due to double amping? Of will if just be louder?

All the settings fr dss2 should still function right? Effects and surround settings?

Would a Dac e17 provide any benefit? Or is the xbox dac good?

If the signal is already digital from the optical out on xbox? Would I use the analog RCA out on the xbox?

Optical is digital yes.

Is there any reason you have to use the E09K? You could try the dss2 with the 598's alone, and if they aren't loud enough, which I doubt, then you could use the E09K. But if you really want to, yes, use the headphone out into the E09K, turn the volume on the dss2 to like 80% and use the E09K to control volume from there.
