This is just what I've been waiting for

Comes in white and black (black is for upgraded version more $ though).

For me, a perfect companion to my Micro DAC/SM3: Small 13", nice price ($1100-1500) , Front Row, MagSafe, iSight, new glossy screen, and of course bit-perfect output with Mac OSX and iTunes out-of-the-box.

Anyone know how quality of optical out is compared to MacBook Pro, TheSloth? Anyone? Anyone?

I'm assuming upsampling will be possible too?

My perfect transportable overseas retirement travel rig to replace my iBook, AirPort Express, and USB cable in my rig.

A four item travel rig: MacBook, Micro DAC/amp, optical link, and IEM. So cool and so simple for my tastes and needs.

Lovin' more choices and more options

I'm more than happy now with my current rig. No need to upgrade. . . . Yet

(If only Micro DAC was as small as my Xin SM3

. I'm gonna check out MacBook at my local Apple Store today.)

The units have only been out for a couple hours. No one will have a comparison for sure with the MacBook Pro yet, but traditionally Macs have had bit-perfect digital outputs out of the box. I see no reason why this new machine would be any different.

The problem with Apple machines is that Apple is making a secret out of its componnts...

The GMA950 graphics adapter seesm to indicate that they use a Intel 954GM chipset. That chipsety supports HD-audio codecs.

My Acer laptop is using 945PM chipset with a Realtek 88x codec and the optical digital output works bit-perfect with XP.

So depending on the codec they use (???) the digital output is likely to be bit perfect as well.

Cheers

Thomas
