I can test if it works with digital out upon request. I have a Theorem 720 portable iDevice DAC/AMP that's collecting dust.

I don't know if anyone will actually read this, but upon experimenting, the biggest boost in sound quality seems to have come from lowering the pre-amp to the lowest setting and lowering all the other settings to -4 except for the 60hz to my liking, then raising the volume (60/100, non-limited).
This seems to have amazingly fleshed out my Merlins straight from an iPhone 5. It sounds incredible. Not sure it is because they are hybrids and needed a little more juice or what.
Someone else please try with your earphone of choice and report your findings.
