In soundcard for 50% music and 50% competitive gaming i hesistate between :

- Asus Xonar Essence ST

- Asus Xonar Phoebus complete bundle 5.1 Ubisoft

- "Mega Pack" Asus Xonar Xence + Sennheiser  PC350

- Asus Xonar HDAV 1.3 Slim

- Creative Sound Blaster Zxr PCIe

In headphone for 90% competitive gaming 10% music i hesitate between :

- Audio Technica AD700

- Samson srh850

- Akg K701/702

- Beyerdynamic DT770 pro/premium 80/250 ohm

- Beyerdynamic DT880 pro/premium

- Beyerdynamic DT 990

- Sennheiser PC 350

- Senheisser PC 360

- Sennheiser HD598

- Sennheiser HD650

- Sennheiser HD600

I read on this forum the Samson shr850 was cheaper and more acurate in directional accuracy than the AD700

In hifi headphone i have the Grado sr60 without amp with a 2010 samsung mp3 player YP-RO and i hate this phone so much they lack bass and low it feel the sound feels veiled.

I tested with a friend a Sennheiser Px100 ii of his brother and it destroys level SQ my Grado and his Philips M1.

So what choose guys ?

I've read many times this awesome guide but i made yesterday a thread on a french forum called jv.com in hardware section and a guy say me he knew a guy who changes his old Akg K701 for a Beyerdynamic MMX300 (same version than DT770 i think but with a mic) and he says me his friend prefer now the MMX300 1000 times more than his old K701

According Mad Lust Envy aka. Shin CZ's the best headphones for gaming are 1st the AD700, 2nd the K701 and after Fidelio X1/HD598/PC360

I read a post of him in avsforum where he say :

So I rented MW2 for the PS3 last night (they didn't have it on the 360) and played about 10 matches with my DT990s... out of the 10 FFA matches, I won every single one of them, with a clear gap between 1st and 2nd. I hadn't even played the game in over a month.

I played with the purpose of testing out the DT990s. Verdict: They work, and work well. Definitely ahead of the 880s, and have the best VERTICAL soundstage of all the headphones I have used. The AD700 and K701 have more width and depth, but the 990s have a clear advantage in overhead soundstaging. I usually never noticed these things before. I dunno if they are worthy of being straight gaming performers, but they definitely wouldn't be problematic to use. Again, MW2 has proven just how terrible the overall sound quality is compared to CoD4 and WaW. The DT990 is a stickler for detail, and exposed a lot of the faults with the game's audio.

If someone wanted a competent gaming headphone that wants bass and clarity, definitely look into the 990/600. I'd definitely choose the K701 and AD700 ove the 990 for competitions though. The positioning of those two are clear cut winners. In overall positioning, I'd say:

DT990s are a 7/10
DT880 is a 6/10
K701 is a 9/10,
AD700 is a 10/10
DT770 Pro 80s is an 11/10! (I hope that if and when I get the DT770/600, that they can provide that level of positionin with much more clarity)

He made a new guide in avs : http://www.avsforum.com/t/1285726/the-new-gaming-headset-headphone-topic-request-sticky-plz

But for the DT770 pro 80s he give just 6/10 in competitive use because of too many bass and maybe 9/10 is the bass is tamed i think he expected a 11/10 for the DT770pro

For the DT770 Premium he gives only 4/10 in competitive i think it's very bad

Well i prefer choose the K701 or AD700

There's a guy on the Internet to tell you anything

Meanwhile, Mad Lust Envy's guide is well-respected as a resource on this site. You know, Head-Fi? The leading Internet discussion site/resource about headphones :)

I read on my french forum a guy prefer his mmx300  (dt770) for gaming and his K701 for music because he's more neutral.

But he hasn't tested the AD700.

Something i don't understand is why he prefer his mmx300 while this phone have a lot of bass for competitive it's not good.

Now i'm sure he just prefers his MMX300 for non competitive gaming just forcausual gaming not for competitive like me

Ditch the 880 it's not to great for gaming, but the Dt 990 is a better gamin option! [although both are EXCELLENT with music]

Do you think the DT990 is enough for compet gaming or i take the flat AD700 ?

I'd be surprised at the sound quality for music DT990 if I take compared to AD700 ?

I use my headphone on a future Xonar Essence ST.

And for portable headphone what have the best sound QUALITY between the Beyerdynamic Custom Pro, the Sennheiser Amperior, the Beyer DT1350 ?

I love this country it's warm and it's great for surfing.

Do you think AD900x kick ass of DT770 and K701/Q701 in competitive gaming use ?
biggrin.gif

I own two DT770s (80 & 250) and the ATH-A900X (closed version).
My A900X beats the DT770s in music quality and the AD900X should be a little better then the A900X.
Not sure on AD900X vs AKG 7XX series.
