I just thought I would post this for anyone thinking of buying one of the new imacs.

There is a problem when replacing the hard drive that will cause the hard drive fan to rev up to full speed making it sound like a small vacuum cleaner. There is a wire that goes between the board and the hard drive that allows the computer to take the hard drives temperature from the internal sensors of the hard drive. The older imacs had a temperature sensor that was taped to the outside of the hard drive that could be transferred to the new hard drive.

If you want to change the drive on the new imac's, you need to use the same brand of drive so that the wire fits into the new drives temp sensor connector. In my case and many others, even using the same brand hard drive with the temp sensor plugged in correctly will still have this problem of the hard drive fan revving up. The only solution I found so far is to use one of the optical temp sensor plugged into the board with the sensor taped to the hard drive like they use to be made.

The sensor part is here.

This did resolve the fan problem on my imac.
