The P2
P2 is temporarily out of stock

The R&D report for the D2
D2 R&D Report

All other info, posted has been word of mouth from Head-fi'ers who have emailed Ibasso.

They seem to respond to emails rather quickly (they did in my case) But dont seem to update the website that often.

The D2 uses the same DAC chip as the Pico, but otherwise the DAC is not the same. Different circuit design, same DAC chip.

I know the D2 has the PCM2706 and WM8740,which the Pico has, but it doesn't say anything about that AD up-sampling chip. I didn't want anyone to get the impression that the D2 has an identical DAC circuit design as the Pico, just shares the DAC chip. The DAC section is not a clone. Being the owner of a P2 and a D1, I'm betting the D2 will undoubtedely be a better value than the Pico, as well as give it a run for it's money performance-wise.

In correspondence with iBasso I was told that their engineer specializes in digital circuitry. It should be interesting. I would think this is why the dac section of the D1 is so good. They have also learned much on the amp section. I look forward to the D2. Now I want a D1 in the D2 size but it is too much to cram in there and there would be no battery life.

Does the D2 have optical input? From the pictures I couldn't say...

No, it is only USB. There is little room for optical but a mini optical in would seem to be doable, to my anyway having used the mini optical and having modified units to use it. There is an awful lot packed into the D2 or Preditor or Pico though.

That would be real nice. I would like to take advantage of the optical out from my Iriver H 140.

That is what the D1 does. I don't think they plan on doing it with the D2, at least not from what I know and the use of USB is a much bigger market. What we like is the iRiver optical but we are but a small lot. :^)

I know, frustrating. I wish they would make the D1 smaller, what an almost perfect portable that would be.

Sounds like D2 is gonna be another killer, especially its only $199 +$16 shipping (to Australia in my case).

Too bad i dont really need a DAC, so P2 it is !
