Ok Purple, I've been reading other forums here and have read many of your posts.. I like you.. haha. so I have the Xonar DGX coming, would it be a good thing (or possible) to get and hook up the FiiO E10 or E11 to the DGX? If I read right I understand that the amp is more powerful in the external, and with hooking it up to the sound  card  I still get the Dolby Headphone? or am I completely wrong in this?

The FiiO E10's can not work with any sound card, including the DGX.

FiiO E11 works fine plugged into the Xonar DGX and you still get Dolby Headphone.
The FiiO is a more powerful headphone amplifier, then the one built into the DGX.
Order the FiiO E11 with the Micca accessory pack, comes with an extra battery and a simple AC battery charger.

As the AKG K550s are only 32-ohm, the E11 low impedance is a benefit for driving the K550s.

It will. So, you suddenly went with closed cans? I would have recommended the Phillips fidelio x1 as they seem to be right up your alley

you're right! Sorry that was the first day that I was looking.. Still really new to the headphone thing. The dt770 was one of the very first ones I was looking. When I discovered the others were open I decided to boot those and look into the a900x and dt770 reviews and comparisons. While looking there I found reviews for the k550. So yes at first I had open headphones cause I didn't know :p sorry for the confusion!

Hope I am not to late to give my opinion. I do not think you would be happy with the DT 770 for what you want. I read one other post about the sennheiser HD598. They are great for what you need. Check them out.

So it will all be a pretty decent set up right?

As someone who owns the K550, Xonar DGX & E11, I think you will have a combo that would work.

HarmonAudio (AKG) sometimes sells refurb K550, with a factory warranty, on eBay, I paid $180 for my refurb K550s

thanks for your suggestion! I have decided to go with a closed headphone though. And I kind of steered away from the dt770 cause a lot of people said it was a bit bass heavy for games. I then started comparing the a900x to the k550, and I started reading a lot about the wings being an issue on the a900x. Either way..anythimg I get will be a million times better than my cheap headset.

I actually found a new pair on ebay that were 195. I think they said it was an open box but never used. Going to look into it a little more.

K550 can have seal issues as you know, so I hope you don't have a small head...
