I want to buy a new pair of headphones, my old one was sony mdr-32 (and I like it), I wish to find another similar pair (small, supra-aural, one sided cable) with very good performance, usually used for portable hi-fi and for home amplifier, could you suggest me some model? another sony? sennheiser? or somethin else?
have somebody ever heard this model?

thanks all

One sided cables are tough to find in small lightweight headphones, except in the street-style types. And the only one of those worth buying is the Koss KSC-55 neckband (same driver as the KSC-50 ear-clip).

Hey,

I replied to your question over at HeadWize. You see, the MDR-32 is a very old (by Walkman-replacement headphone standards) model, produced back in 1988 or 1989, whose line of succession led to the MDR-34 ( 1991-1994 ), MDR-35 ( 1994-1998 ) and now the MDR-301LP ( 1998-present ). None of the successor models to the MDR-32 sound all that great. And I also tried the next model down from the MDR-32, the MDR-022, and that model didn't sound good at all - very inefficient, and totally bass-less. But I've never seen an MDR-32 in person when it was in production; I was buying sub-$20 headphones at the time (I think the MDR-32 had sold for $24.95 or $29.95 at the time that it was produced).

It's highly likely that you've never heard a true good pair of headphones.

HD 56? Forget about it. That 'phone, too, doesn't sound all that much better than the freebie headphones that came packaged with Walkman players over here where I'm at.

With a single cord, the Koss KSC-55 sounds best of the cheap headphones. But where you're at (in Italy, apparently), unfortunately, Koss headphones are way overpriced: If you can even find the KSC-55, it'll cost significantly more $$$ than what you had paid for your Sony MDR-32, and it'll cost you more $$$ than the price that you've seen the HD 56 selling for.

eagle>thanks, u're so kind.
Yes, I'm from italy.
So, accordin to u, if I buy sony mdr 301lp I'll have the same sound of my old mdr32?
Koss here r diffcult to find.

thanks again.

Grado? Those have a double cord don't they? and not so small.

Sennheiser PX-100 would at least be small (double cord though) or Senn 280 with a single cord, but kinda big.

I suspect that those Grados (SR-80 and SR-125) will cost the equivalent of $150 to $230 USD over there.

perhaps sennheiser px100's (or px200's if you need to block out outside noise) would suit you best if you can find them locally?
