Hey!

Can anyone please recommend me a full-sized closed headphones up to $200?
I've been using ATH-A500 since 2005 (believe or not), have made a couple of threads in this forums previously, but never actually bought a new set. Only fixed the cable.

I'm mainly using them through my usb soundcard (Creative X-Fi Surround) in my laptop for random music and movies.

I'm wondering if there's anything better sounding for this price range, even after 10 years?

Thanks for any suggestion

Audio Technica ATH-A900X.

Maybe the Soundmagic HP150

A900X looks interesting. Is there any good place to order to EU member state? I ermember for A500-s there was some Japanese site that sold those headsets over 2x below the norm price.

I dont have any of these headphones, however, according to all the reviews Ive read (hundreds), I think the best headphones under 200 bucks are:

Custom One Pro Plus ($199 right now on amazon) - There is an older discontinued version called Custom One Pro which is cheaper ($179 right now on amazon), which apparently are the same in every sense but does not include the accesory kit the Plus includes (16 design covers)

M-100 ($209 right now on amazon) - Although the prices for the M-100 are different according to the color of the product, camelcamelcamel.com shows that this headphones dropped its price to 150 bucks during the days of black friday, and I saw a new pair for $199 last week on amazon too, so, you can probably get it for under 200 if you wait for it.

ATH-M50X ($154 right now on amazon, the white color)

hear.on ($198 right now on amazon)

DT 770 Pro ($149.99 / 80 ohm - $199 / 32 ohm right now on amazon) - You might preffer the 32 ohm, and if you want to use an amp, the 80 ohm. Ive heard marvelous reviews about these headphones, but, at least for me, the non detachable cable is a major drawback.

ATH-MSR7. ($207 on amazon) - again, Ive seen this price dropp to 199 dollars, it might happen if you wait.

My top recommendations would be the ATH-MSR7, the Custom One Pro Plus, or the M100. Out of those, I would get the M100. Good luck and I hope I helped you.

On eBay there are usually a few sellers located in Japan, that will ship world wide the ATH-A900X.
Sometime for around $150.
Not sure what the import tax would be for you?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I see Audio-Technica have buil A500X also which is a cheaper A900X. Reading the specifications i can not find any difference between A500X and A500. Are they just cosmetically upgraded?

I would expect the A500X version to have at least a slight improvement, over the A500.
But it's really just a guess.
