Hey guys, I am new to the whole audiophile scene and I am just wanting some expert opinions on a new pair of over the ear headphones. I listen to mostly metal and some classic rock, as well as dub step and a little classical (yes, I like a wide variety of music!). I looked at the ATH M50s and they looked cool, with plenty of positive reviews and an even cooler price tag. I also looked at the vmoda cross fade LPs and they looked interesting too. The whole point is that I have an idea that beats for the most part are crap and it is time to retire from skull candy. I would love some suggestions for a headset that looks stylish, and preforms well too. Thanks guys!

A step above the M50 would be the M-Audio Q40. Great sound and Bassy, most feel it sounds as good as $300 phones. Cost around $130.

Ultrasone HFI-580 if you'd like some bass heavy phones: http://www.head-fi.org/t/534029/fight-the-beats-hype-ultrasone-hfi-580-hfi-580-appreciation-thread

Soundmagic HP100 for something much closer to neutral: http://www.head-fi.org/t/616201/soundmagic-hp100-review
