Good morning. I hope that you are all doing marvellously well.

I would like some help, please.

I am in the middle of refreshing all my gear (which I do periodically) and am looking for some circumaural headphones, preferably closed but open to erm, open back.

I listen mainly to Britfunk, electronica, EDM, synthwave and deep house. I like a balanced but slightly warm signature, not too dark or neutral. The 'phones must be able to run balanced.

In the past I have had NAD VISO HP50 (warm, but perhaps a little too dark in retrospect), Shure SRH1540 (great fit but rolled off treble, even in balanced), Ananda BT (too piercing, not enough bass). I currently have a pair of TakStar Pro82 (neutral but great fit and comfort) and AT MSR7b (balanced but could do with a little more bass - I tried some different pads but they didn't help).

I will be getting an Ifi Zen signature stack next week so something in the HD6 family is an obvious choice to try. Looking around, I thought that the HD58X Jubilee might fit me better than the HD6XX or 660S. My budget would be under £500.

If willing to buy used the Denon AH-D7200 should be in budget, though just barely. That's my go to closed back, some bass emphasis, does well with those genres.

Well if you mean the iFI Zen Can Signature 6XX then by all means get a 6XX . Not for sure about the others but is very good with them.

I've just picked up a pair of HD58X so will see what they're like. I know the button on the Signature "corrects" some of the perceived deficiencies of the 6XX but the 58X on paper might have the signature I prefer anyway. It's all part of the fun!

Considering you'll be getting our ZEN Signature stack, I'd go for HD 6XX just to exploit ZEN CAN Signature's EQ curve tailored for these cans :)

If the HD58X doesn't work out that will be my next choice.

+1 on this the 6XX’s and Zen Can Signature 6XX is excellent and though I do like the Bottlehead Crack a bit more with the 6XX’s it is kind of a one trick pony for high impedance cans and the tubes that really get them going are getting very expensive now. The Zen Can is a much more versatile amp as it can play well with my planars and the Crack can not. Nice power for the Drop T-X0’s as well and the 6XX eq works with them as I find them a bit warm as it adds just a bit of high end and also a bit of boost on the bottom end. I’m not sure about the XSpace right now but it is not overbearing.

Thanks! And yes, Bottlehead Crack is a known math for Senns.
