I'm a little surprised, I had heard that these came with a veil standard, but I sure can't find it! Am I supposed to register with Sennheiser before I get my veil?

So far they sound great, and I have every reason to believe that with just a couple of hours on them they will get a lot better.

The veil stuff gets blown out of proportion, I've never believed in it. I'm glad that your ears agree

x2. They definately are on the darker side of neutral but people really do exagerate the whole "veil" thing.

Well... hey that's great if you don't notice it... but, a lot of us do, when compared to my RS-1's (Grados in general), or I presume the K701's, or DT880's, SA5000's, etc.

Although, I would acknowledge that the WA3 is a great amp to minimize the veil, especially with the right tubes.

It's actually not. Listen to the K1000, then listen to the HD650 and you will be floored.

Lets not have this thread turn into yet another veil arguement please. You like the "clearer" sound others like the "darker" sound. LEts leave it at that before someone starts shoving.

Congrats on picking up the 650's. I've still yet to hear a pair for myself but have wanted to verify whether "the veil" exists to my ears for quite some time. It's good to hear they left if off your pair.

Please share your RS-1 vs HD650 impressions once you've spent some quality time with them.

As Duggeh mentions, the 650 is a darker can as most know and that quality is what draws me in. I don't use my 880 much lately, they are great but seem quite bright with IMO, an inferior midrange compared to the 650. It'd take me a couple days to recondition myself to feeling good about the 880 again but since the 650 sounds so right to me I don't have the desire right now.

Of course I color my source with the Aphex 204 which can make the 650 as bright as the sun if I wish. It's great for "dull" sounding recordings or just to liven things up when I feel the need.
