I went to the CD shop the other day and was surprised to see a new Gomez album. I thought they'd dissapeared! I didn't buy it though since I'd already bought far too many CD's.

It's called A New Tide.

Anyone have it? What's it like?

I've ordered the Vinyl, but there has been a delay in production and hopefully shipping out any day now.

I've only heard one track, but all there other stuff is great so I can't wait for the new one.

What I'm worried is that it's more of the same. I have Bring it On, Split the Difference and Liquid Skin and they all sound pretty similar to me. I think that voice just gets a bit tiresome after a while and all the stuff seems to sound the same.

Jeepers, we have really similar taste in music. I feel young again!

For what it's worth, I'm not really enjoying this latest album. I've gotta go off to work, but I'll say a little more later.

curious about this one too.
I have Liquid Skin and like it when I play it...a bit generic but the one tune I heard from the new one, I thought, 'who's this?!'...huh, Gomez? Cool' or something like that...point being that it sounded good, their sound production has always been well done and the bluesy indie-ness of their music is sorta unique. Wondering if anyone's given this new one a few spins yet.

FWIW, I think How We Operate departs a bit from their earlier work. A little more polished, maybe pop-ier. My favorite so far, but I'm a latecoming fan. It's addictive, and I recommend you give it a shot.

No real opinion on the new album yet.

OK, let's see... I only have Bring It On and Split the Difference, and prefer the former. A friend just bought a copy of a New Tide, and while I generally like the prototypical indie rock sound, I miss the alt. country flavour of Bring It On and (arguably) Split the Difference. I mean, part of why I liked Gomez was that they had a distinctive way of fusing indie rock with country music, in a way that didn't make them Wilco clones. Does that make sense? With this new album, that distinctiveness seems to have disappeared. It's just an indie rock album. Sometimes an indie piano rock album even, in the vein of Keane rather than Coldplay. It's a decent indie rock album, but bring the old Gomez back, please and thank you.

Edit: I'll concede that some tracks retain the indie/country fusion, so the album is not totally devoid of this. But still, it's a matter of emphasis.

If it's different though, that could be a good thing. I might pick it up anyway.

I have Liquid Skin, Bring it On and Split the Difference. I didn't like Liquid Skin that much, but its mostly because I listened to the other two first and it got a bit samey. I liked the slightly electronica aspects of Split the Difference. And yes, Gomez albums have incredible sound quality. And I think some bits of Split the Difference are in binaural.

I wish they'd tour New Zealand

Caught Gomez on Letterman a few weeks ago. I liked their new song and want to get the CD. I only have 'How We Operate' also which I think is a great album. I want to get their live album which I hear is good too.

I purchased the CD and Vinyl, the LP is yet to ship.
My wife and I ordered them a few weeks back, if you ordered the album in advance, the band was signing the CD's.

I enjoy the new album but then again, I dig Gomez's stuff. As always, their high quality production makes for great sound on the new disc. There is a lot of new sounds from instruments on the new album which is very nice. One aspect of Gomez albums that I really enjoy is that the band takes turns playing different instruments (like the Shins and others), and the singer is different in certain tracks too.

For another album to check out, try "Out West", it is a live album (2 disc). Gomez is a band that needs to seen live.

They are quite talented.
