This is a sort of alternative to Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. The idea is to take the band or performer mentioned in the previous post and get as far away from that performer as possible in one step (which you have to explain!). The step doesn't have to be a person, but obviously those are the more obvious ones.

For example:

The Rolling Stones steps to The Boomtown Rats
(Boomtown Rats covered "Under My Thumb")

The Boomtown Rats steps to U2
(Bob Geldof and Bono both performed on the Band Aid single)

U2 steps to Kris Kristofferson
(Johnny Cash performed with U2 on Zooropa, and was in The Highwaymen with Kris)

Someone help this get going by making a giant step from Kris Kristofferson please!

Let me see if i go this!
Kris Kristofferson to Janis Joplin
Because both play "Me and Bobby McGee"
and from Janis you have much to get away from!

Janis Joplin to Rufus Wainwright
(They both stayed at the Chelsea Hotel, where Joplin romped with Leonard Cohen and inspired his song of that title, and Wainwright wrote most of Poses)

Rufus Wainwright to Judy Garland
because they performed the exact same set at Carnegie Hall, 45 years apart.

judy garland to pink floyd

The Beatles to Veruca Salt

The Salt song "Volcano Girls" contains a reference to The Beatle's song "Glass Onion"

Volcano Girls:

"I told you about the seether before/you know the one that'e neither or nor/well here's another clue if you please/the seether's Louise."

Glass Onion:

"I told you about the walrus and me - man/ you know that we're as close as can be - man/ Well here's another clue for you all/ The walrus was Paul."
