Hi,

I'm thinking of buying my first "serious/hifi" headphones. I want them for general use(music, watching movies, gaming, MAYBE some video editing but nothing serious. I'm from europe so I'll be listing the links to our prices. I'll probably buy a standalone mic for the headphones.

-Closed: I'm in a quite loud enviorment so I want them closed so they can block some of the nosie

-Amp: Well this is a tricky thing. I want them without buing an additional amplifier. I onw a GA-Z97X-UD5H(http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/GA-Z97X-UD5H-rev-10#ov) motherboard that has a decent audio and a 600Ohm audio amplifier. I intend to use them MOSTLY at home, RARELY on my laptop or phone(I will buy seperate ones when I have the money).

-Sound signature: Netural, V(U), warm/bassy
I also want them to be comftrobale, for long sesions of listening(this can be also achived with pads as I heard).

I did a fair bit of research before posting on this thread but still couldn't make up my mind :'(

The headsets I was looking at were:

-The bayerdinamyc DT770 series:  <---- interested(I can bring the V shape down in EQ if I want)
There are several differen versions of these 16, 32, 80, 250, 600 Ohms (PRO and STUDIO and M ). I should be able to drive all of those fairly good with my motherboard. The thin I'm interested is if the 16/32 are really so much worse then the higher I'mpedance modeles. I read a lot of forums and people kept saying that lower I'mpedance models are mudier. I'm really thinking of buying one of these models but don't know which.

You list neutral and V (U) under signature. Which one is it, or don't you care? I am going to go with fairly neutral and you can correct me if I'm wrong. Of those on your list, I like the HD380 Pro and the M40X. Both are good. The DT770 are incredibly bright and sibilant IMO--I just can't bear them. In your price range, I also like the AKG K553 Pro/K551/K550 (whichever is available in your country). Really good. Also, the SoundMAGIC HP150 is quite good (slight v shape). The Kingston Hyper X Cloud II is also quite good in this price range. Super comfy, too. I like the HD598CS fairly well, it just doesn't isolate very well. Some thoughts for you.   ---)

I don't really care. I can set the signature in the EQ if I want, I just want cans that are ABLE to deliver more bass/tremble if I want that. I also want to have a good sound stage which the DT770 series should have. I'm currently on a 20€ headset so anything I buy will be better then those. Did you try out the HD380 Pro and the M40X? Yeah It's a matter prefference, some people love the DT770 some don't. I listened to them in some rewievs and I liked them. Do you think I could drive the DT770 250 Ohm or 600 Ohm with my hardware?
I found the AKG K550 for £105.00(https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B005CNR7B0/ref=sr_1_4_olp?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492242109&sr=1-4&keywords=AKG+K553&condition=used).
AKG 553 with the hard box (used) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AKG-K553-Pro-Closed-back-Studio-Headphones-With-Hard-Case-and-Box-/252859628072?hash=item3adf9bba28:g:i2IAAOSwls5Y7bLA

I did a little reaserch and people like the AKG 553 over the 550 because of the sound(upper bass has more body, wieder sound stage)

The SoundMAGIC HP150 £79.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/SoundMAGIC-HP150-Closed-Headphones-Replaceable/dp/B00NF5SF3Q/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
some people said the build quality is bad

I was thinking about Kingston Hyper X Cloud II but the 7.1 surround sound is gimicky :/

I own the M40X and I have heard the HD380 a few times. Yes, you can drive the DT770 600 ohm with your hardware, the question is how well? Will you have the volume and dynamics and bass extension and life and richness harmonically that your headphones are capable of delivering when properly driven? Unfortunately, there is only one way to know for certain--plug them in and have a listen  See what you, yourself, think.  ---)

So how much do you like the M40X? I think I'll tkae your edvice and just take one of the low impedance models like BRAINWAVZ HM5, Soundmagic HP150 and maybe Sony MDR-100AAP....something portable, so when I programm I can listen to music on my laptop and not only on my desktop. I probably can't go wrong with either with them right? :)

I like my M40X quite well. Of those you list, I would say all are good. I think the best sounding though is the SoundMAGIC--by quite a good margin, actually. No, I don't think any of them is bad, however.

I like the SoundMAGIC but have bad quality control and their support isn't the best as I read some reviews on amazon :/  I'm not sure what ot take....

I have the k550 (mk1, not sure what the mk2 adds), and I like them. They are very comfy (albeit warm ears after a long session). You mentioned somewhere about portability, and the k550s are certainly not very portable, they have large cups and a crazy long cable.

If your in the UK you could probably demo some in richersounds?

I'm not from the UK but gonna buy from amazon.co.uk of amazon.de. I think I'll go with the m40x an Brainwaz HM5 pads, or maybe shure 840 that are the same price as the m40x with pads.

Let us know how you get on!

Could probably sell the k550's, I never ever use them now due to my obsession with IEM's!
