the case included with the 550 is pretty good, but i'm looking for something that can give it a full protection (full enclosure) sicne i'm going to be throing it into my bag a lot. and this case (which looks similar to the 400 case) looks pretty good and safe.


or are there other alternatives from 3rd party? any suggestions? thx

A cheap one would be those 12-CD semi hard wallets you can buy (or even get given). Rip out the CD holders but one (for use as liner) and you'll have a case for the 550. I really like the 550 case. It's the best 'free' PCDP case I've seen so far.

if i had gotten the leather one, yes it would've been the best case ever. but the velour material combined with the cheap silverish lining on the american version makes it look a bit ugy and tacky.

Um... The "ugly and tacky" is the one I like. Granted aesthetically it's not that sharp but compared to Sony's pouches this is a work of art.

let me correct that, the material makes it a bit 'ugly and tacky'. i agree that the string puches are bad, and this one is well designed and fitted for the player, i only wished they have chosen a better color. actually, if they have used a darker colour like black on the linigs, it would look much better.

to be honest, the case is growing on me, since i couldn't find anything better to replace it..not yet at least.

Hope this isn't a mute point, and I apologize for postin' a possible known link but have you looked at: http://www.cases.com.ar

If you don't mind spending a lil' bit more ($25-$35), they have really nice hand made smooth black leather flap cases with belt clips that are custom tailored to fit just about any piece of portable player you have, including PCDPs. They look like a great way to carry your gear in style.

BTW - For a budget solution, what about takin' a black permanent marker, like a sharpie, to that sliver material trim on the iRiver's 550 case?

When it comes to cases I'm a Case Logic fen.
I am using DMP6 with my 550. The case holds the player (quite neatly), 6 CDs and some accesories like spare set of gumsticks and buds. You can actually accomodate more CDs something like 10 at least.
