I was hoping they are made in Japan, well hopefully the drivers and such are Japan made or developed. Oh well, I don't mine supporting the Chinese since I am on myself

Sadly, the days of Japanese made products are gone. Most countries outsource production elsewhere due to cheap labor.

The classic DT990 600 Ohm don't have fatiguing highs at all. From what I've heard the same goes for the 600 Ohm DT990 Manufaktur. Both need a strong amp to power them though.

i dont think 2005 dt990 250ohm are that difficult to drive.
after driving them with gilmore lite and littledot mk4se, i started driving them with portable amps (headsix, boa, pico) and loved the sound. it even sounded great out of cowon x5 unamped.

If you order from Provantage, the very earliest that they will ship will be July 23. I've had my order in for about 3 weeks now, and that is the second ship date they have given me. Hopefully they ship them this time.

Yes, indeed... a very good and warm amp, get the best of the DT990s

I completely agree...

DT990s are highly undervalued in the market.

All three headphones need decent amplification, and if this happens, I have no doubt the D2000's are the winner. People sometimes think that low impedance headphones might be driven from whatever. It is wrong, because these are current-hungry creatures, and for some desktop amps it's still a problem to provide high current, not high voltage, which is a domain of tube amps, especially OTL's. So, again, well and properly amped the D2000's will be the best, then K701, and then rednecked DT990's. Sure, you can extinguish their treble fire but they still don't reach the level of the other two, especially Denon's. This is my subjective opinion, of course.

^^

Good points. But also have to consider OP's music selection, and the D2000s are the winner there as well. Once you get an amp, they will really sound niceeeeeeeeee! Unamped, great. Amped, wow!

Bah, the DT990 with the correct amp (and there is a lot that synergyze well with them) and the same source (for all), blown away both of them in almost all the aspects....

Just got my D2000's 2 weeks ago.
Sounded good with an old modified Headroom amp.
Ordered a Meier Arietta and had Jan Meier adjust the gain to 0dB.
All I can say is this combo is great !!!

The D2000's are not technically superior to the K701's, it's all about preference. Personally I would give the nod to the D2000's as my favorite between the two, but for some types of music you cannot beat the K701's.
