New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

I've also had lots and lots over the years (T1, T1.2, T5p, T5.2, DT770 x4, DT1770, DT1990, DT700, DT880, DT1350, T51, T70p, T90, Amiron, Amiron Wireless) and only once a bad driver. So getting two in a row is really bad luck and not representative of Beyerdynamic quality.

Of course its possible to kill a driver by overloading it. But if you only played through them while on your head, I'd say your ears would have given out first @Oscarilbo

The DT770/250 is said to be the most balanced version of the DT770 series, but I never heard it. If you're sensitive to bass, avoid the 80Ohm version. That one I do know, and its fun. Different bass from DT700 though, less kick, a bit more emphasis somewhat lower.
Thank you. How would you compare the DT770 and the DT700 sound quality wise. I listen mainly orchestral music (film scores mainly). Some of it made with electronics But nothing it obligatory REQUIRES very fast transients.

Going from memory I’d say the DT770 is more spacious while the DT700 is more intimate, lively and maybe a tad slower/warmer. It definitely has the more agreeable treble section over the DT770, which can border on too much treble at times. This was the 80Ohm version though, I think the 250ohm version might be better in that regard

Thank you. So no really big of a difference I guess. How are technicalities, from your memory? are they about the same on both?

Hard to tell… it’s been a while. My recollection would classify the DT770 as the more correct if a bit distant and less engaging model, while the DT700 might ignore some details or use a tiny bit of color for the fun of listening to music.

But for sich details this is too distant already… I think it’s more than a year that I sold my DT700 and almost as much for selling my last DT770

I have some DT-770 Pro on hand, but they are not using stock pads anymore. When I put the pads on they were a considerable improvement from the worn stock pads but who knows how close they are to the stock sound. Still, DT 700 Pro X smokes them kind of effortlessly for everything but soundstage, in my opinion. I think they're better at making a closed headphone today than they were when they designed the DT-770 Pro. Much more balanced sound overall, less peaky but still very detailed, quicker drivers and seemingly better damping etc. than the 250ohm DT-770. I don't think the difference between the 990/600ohm and 880/600ohm to the DT 900 Pro X is nearly as pronounced as the difference from the DT-770 to the DT 700 Pro X - not to say you can't very clearly differentiate between any of these headphones, but in terms of there being an obvious leap the 770-->700 Pro X is more of that versus the DT 900 Pro X kind of refining what the DT 880 and DT 990 did well (but trading some width in the soundstage in the process).

I am currently really loving how the DT-900 Pro X are handling an evening gaming and listening to music. Tremendous experience with nice, spacious material. Drivers seem so quick handling transients but then the overall balance isn't so peaky even so. This album is great with 'em:

Thank you for your feedback! So in your opinion DT700 Pro X is indeed an upgrade.

Guys. Just out of curiosity if I may. Which one of both of these DT770 250 ohm edition is the newest?
Thank you in advance

Forgive me if this was answered in early 2021, but how is the isolation on the 700s? My wife wanted an open concept house and we have children, so...

I've been using noise-cancelling headphones that I'm happy with (B&W 7x s2s) but I'd like to see if I can get a wired solution for both gaming and attentive listening. If not these, then what would you recommend?

Damn! Amazon USA (meaning as sold and sent by Amazon USA) is apparently out of stock of the 700 Pro X. Any idea how much time it takes to re-stocked them again usually?

I don't know about Amazon's stock, but these retailers have it and they're trustworthy

Hi, how could I increase the clamping force on DT 900?
I think clamping force is less than older Beyerdynamic's models like DT 770 or Custom One Pro. At least, I got used to clamping force of those, now I have DT 900 - and it is not enough for my preference.
How to increase it? :dt880smile:

That may be the first post ever asking about *increasing* the clamping force on a pair of Beyers 😳

You could try gingerly bending the headband inwards, but be very careful as the plastic could crack. Alternatively you could try and find thicker replacement ear pads.
