I was at work this morning watching "Big in '05" on VH1. At the end of the show, Def Leppard performed "Pour Some Sugar On Me" Live. How fantastic they are! They sound just as good as they did about 15 years ago when they first did that song. WOW! Very impressive if you ask me. I have always liked them...but now that i have seen this performance? Wow is all I can say. I only have their "Vault" album. However, I think I'm going to backtrack and start purchasing their albums starting with their first one in 1980!

Anyone else like them?

At least they didn't degenerate into a silly MTV hair metal band.......the song "sugar" is from 1987 album Hysteria which was peak popularity for band with producer Mutt Lange pulling the strings, but righfully considered a too soft/safe polished commercial sell out album......with a couple decent tracks

Best to get two previous albums which are more solid musically:
1983 Pyromania
1981 High n Dry

Here the band is more interested in actually rocking and less concerned with image, videos, producers etc (even though Mutt first appeared during Pyromania sessions he hadn't completely reshaped band yet)

There are literally hundreds of great rock bands from 1980's that are unknown to todays young adults (and older adults) that can be found with some internet searching.

Oh yeah! In 1988 at my high school no other band was more popular. I remember throwing many empty beer cans out the window of cars listening to these guys, clearly some of the best Pop-Metal ever, and one of my favorite bands of all time.

I saw them live over the summer and it was a lot of fun. Amazing show, great energy, and they sounded awesome.

I regret missing their last tour....I do have to admit they hold their musical integrity well. The appreciation is a great way of putting it for me personally since my musical taste has (obviously) diversified quite a bit since my headbanging days of the '80s. I enjoy their style and sound even with their newer music.....

I listened to Pyromania and Hysteria during the late 80s/early 90s, and missed everything since then.

Recently, I got Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection and they sound better than ever.

I was a big fan of def and even had "on through the night" in 8 track. I recently listened to the Vault cd and was underwhelmed. Is that just a collection of poor recordings or have my musical tastes changed that much? I still dig the scorpions and lots of other rock but not Vault.
