I was on the pm-1 and pm-3 tour and fell in love with the pm-1. The pm-3 not so much. Felt they were missing quite a bit compared to the 1's. I have not had a chance to try out any other planars but would love to buy a pair, just can not afford a pair of pm-1 and they dont come up on the used market very often. How do the lcd-2 compare? Or the He4xx? Or some other Planars that can be had in the 500-600 range. After Listening to the Pm-1 I got rid of my hd650 and th-x00 because they just did not do it for me any longer.

Try and get a 2nd hand HE-500, best value for money there is in my opinion.

I think the he-500 would be too neutral. I did not find the pm-1 neutral. I found them a bit rolled off on the highs but quite detailed. The bass was impact full but deep and mids were there and nice. I would say that my es60 were quite similar. The hd650 lacked detail compared and lacked bass depth and impact.
