Well, I just received the shure E500 and absolutely love it. Onto some cans then I guess...

Budget...hmm, I'd say I would max out at £260...well, I dunno, I want it to sound better than my E500s.

Not exactly better, but I want a can which has strong points of the E500s weak points...or something. However, I do not know what the weak points of the E500s are with my untrained ears, I guess a larger soundstage?

My musical genres mainly revolve around alternative, post-rock, rock and indie. If you know the song Assassin by Muse when the drums kick in for the first solo I want to be in heaven...

Headphones I have been looking at have ranged from Beyers, K701s, grados...I just can't decide, for every praise there is always a contradiction with someone else

The one thing I can't do is try before I buy, I have no audio shops in my area (unless other people know of one in Nottingham or Loughborough) and cannot drive to audition some anywhere else.

Amp wise I shall buy one depending on which headphones I buy.

Thanks in advance

not that many if you really think about it. most people with a decent budget usually wind up purchasing a k701, hd650, dt880, rs1, gs1000, w5000, ed.9, sa5000, d5000. that's most of them. will probably be happy - overall - with any of them.

And eventually they end up with all of them.

Wish I could have done that as my wallet would have thanked me, but I can't

The thing is I won't be ending up with all of them as I can't afford it...a blessing possibly. I just need a single can, but which should I go for?

How about the grado HF-1's? They have the grado sound which would be great for my genres but also with the added sound stage which the grados apparently are missing.

I'll make a pact bolar, we'll both get the same can, we've got very similar setups already. Is yours a similar budget?

I'm off to Uganda early tomorrow morning so you can do all the talking :)
