Well it just so happens that I managed to get a pair of bookshelf speakers free for several months until the home theatre is done. They are the Dantax Vision R's, seen here

Their specs are as follows
Frequency response: 55-22.000 Hz
Sensitivity: 88 dB
Impedance: 4 Ohm
Power long term: 100 Watt
Power short term: 150 Watt
Woofer: 1x4”
Tweeter: 1x1”
Dimension: 27.6x14x19
I know they're not the best, but they're not bad. They use peerless drivers and are manufactured in Denmark alongside Dynaudio and the like. Retail is about $600.
Anyway, I want to design a small bookshelf/sub system around them using as many componets from my headphone system as possible. Here's what I'm thinking:
Source: Computer, Sony DVP-S300
Pre-Amp: Melos SHA Gold Maestrobator
Amp: no clue
Speakers: Dantax Vision R
Sub: AV123 X-Sub
I have two questions. First, what the heck should I get for an amp???? I will be buying used, and would like to spend no more than $500 MAX. The lower the better though. If it's tube that's another bonus, but I'm not averse to solid state.
Second, as far as the sub goes, should I just stuff the ports on the Dantax's and run a full range signal with no crossover? Is this the best way to get a musical blend?
