Hey guys, I know there must be plenty of threads like these around here, but I'd appreciate any guidance or advice you can contribute.

I'm looking for some good studio monitor headphones. I've been looking at a lot of brands (Sennheiser, BD, AT, etc) and there are a lot of positive comments and some negative comments on so many of these phones. I'm just looking for something that I can use with my home studio.

I'm under the assumption that in my case I'll be looking for closed headphones. Also, can you guys let me know if the headphones that are suggested need an amp to achieve top notch sound, etc.

Thanks a lot

My budget is $300 (just for the headphones). The amp (if i need one) is not included in the $300. The music varies depending on what I'm recording/mixing -- could be rock, jazz, hiphop, classical.
