I’m thinking of purchasing a pair of IEM’s (under $50) to replace my current Creative EP-630’s. I’ve gotten tired of my Creative’s because of their sub-par sound quality and noise isolation. Now I’m asking, what pair of IEM’s for under $50 (be best if sold by Amazon.com) would suit me best while being a big upgrade from the Creative EP-630’s.

I listen to a lot of alternative rock, punk rock, and a bit of pop. I might also turn on some jazz or soundtracks from time to time. What would be best for me?

I’m currently looking at:
Denon AH-C551 ($55)

Any other suggestions? What should I buy?

Thanks,
Leon

i've tried nearly every headphone in the shure lineup and i WOULDN'T get the e2c's. They're just mediocre headphones that truly arent worth the price.

The e2c's were my first pair of "hi-fi" IEM headphones, and even then I had trouble differentiating it's sound quality vs the stock iPod earbuds.

Firstly, you are vastly underrating the EP-630. No earphone in the $50 range is a huge upgrade from them, a good upgrade, yes, but not huge.

Secondly, if you are not happy with the isolation of the EP-630 you'll hate that of the Denons.

Thirdly, you could try the JVC FX66. Or the SoundMAGIC PL30 that is the new HOTM, but I am not sure how good their isolation is.

Someone in one of the PL30 threads said their isolation is not very good.
Shame, because I was considering them for my upcoming plane flight...

I have a pair of Head-Direct RE2's that go for 79 bucks....pretty awesome! I've also heard the OVC TC20's and for 39.00 they rock pretty good too!

So there..

The Head-Direct RE2's are way outta my budget.
But they're great.

You said you were looking for something around the E2c price originally...now changed to 55.00...but still 24.00? You could make that collecting cans for a weekend..LOL.

Anyway, check out the OVC, I think you would be surprised!

Haha. Anyways. Thanks mjrtoo.

I looked at the reviews of the OVC. Nothing great, but an OK option, at best.

I might just buy another pair of Koss KSC75's and make those my portable headphones.

OK option at best...yes, well...that's something for never hearing them for yourself. If you're a specsman, then good luck ever being satisfied in this life.

I have the JVC fx66. They are very comfortable and sound very good but I also got the soundmagic pl-30 and they sound miles better than the fx66 and they only cost 20.00 at focalprice.

Looking at reviews can tell you a lot about the earphone.
