Hi everyone! I need some advice or opinions on which headphones to pick from these two: Audio Technica AD1000x or Audio Technica R70x. I just got both of them today and I'm conflicted between the two. I like how natural and full bodied the R70x sounds but on some songs, the mids(upper mids?) seem to be drowned out. On the other hand, the upper mids and treble on the AD1000x are prominent on most songs but the bass seems a little less than on the R70x. The AD1000x also sounds very different from any other headphones I've listened to before. The R70x fit is perfect on my head and the AD1000x feels like it's sliding down my head. I could get some thicker earpads to fix that issue though. I mostly listen to house music and some other bands like Arctic Monkeys, the Strokes, and some kpop and jpop. I also plan on gaming with these and watch movies and some anime or tv shows as well. I realize I probably need an amp and dac for the R70x since its impedance is 470 ohms, any recommendations on amps for that would be good too. If anyone has any experience with these two headphones could give some input, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Guessing without a decent headphone amplifier, the ATH-R70X will not be performing at it's best.

What do you plug the headphones into now?
Computer's on-board audio?

How much would you be willing to budget for a headphone amplifier or DAC/headphone amplifier?

Yeah so right now i'm just using my Asus z170a's onboard sound, think it's a realtek 892. I'm willing to budget $150, $200 max for an amp or DAC/amp. Also, I just tried out the two headphones playing BF4 and the ad1000x seems to have better directionality than the r70x.

Realtek ALC892, guessing a $20 Asus Xonar DC would easily match (or even better?) audio quality wise, the ALC892

This used Schiit Modi/Magni would make a nice long term investment.
Current bid is $105

For the kind of headphones you have, might be best to invest in the Schiit

I think the first link is the same as the second link. They both go to the sound card link. But before even thinking about an amp and stuff, which one of the two headphones would you pick to keep? I'm planning on returning one of them.

My gut thinks the ATH-R70X, when properly amped, will offer the better sound.
If Audio Technica is willing to release a 470-Ohm headphones, You have to assume they think it's good enough to take the risk.
