I had been using and loved the AKG K501 for more than 3 years, but now the headphone pad is getting old, which I think is the time to had that replaced. Would like to know if a K702 replacement pad fit the K501?? I am living in Western Australia, Perth. I had try to find a K601 replacement pad here, but no chance to get one of that. Only the K701 and K702 pad is available, but the K701 pad looks weird on the K501, because of the colour, the K702 would be a greater combo, but more expensive...

And 1 more thing...people say that, the K701's pad would change the sound of the K501, would the 702 pad be that same?? And is it better if I can get the K601??

Thanks for your attention
Cheers

all the pads for the 400/401/500/501/601/701/702 are interchangeable. The reason that sound would change most because of the 701/702 pads, is because they are thicker in the back than the front. The k601 pads are the same all around, however the k601/701/702 pads are also sheathed in velour so the material is different as well.

These pads all do fine if you wash them in a sink with laundry detergent, so maybe try that first?

quite a few have enjoyed the sound changes that the K701 pad makes on the K501. But I have also read that the K601 pads are a good middle ground between the 701 pads and 501 pads, though I havne't heard that combo myself.

I just recently replaced the original pads on my K400 (essentially the same construction as K501) with K701 pads and haven't noticed any dramatic changes in sound. The big difference is comfort, the new ones are much more comfy.

Taking those foam pads off the spks... priceless!!!
And, my inner pads were ripped & torn anyway.

you don't necessarily want to remove that inner foam, it is there for a reason and helps bass response. but what sounds good is good

I tried the K701 pads on my K501 and did not like the alteration in sonics. To my ears, the K501 sounded honky and congested with the K701 pads vs. the stock K501 pads.

Has anyone tried the JMoney pads with the K501, and care to comment?

When I compared the K400, K401, K500, K501, and K601, I like the sound best of whichever had the most worn pads. I got the K501 NOS and IMO, it's stock pads are the worst of the bunch. Stiff, hard, and thick. They kept the drivers so far from your ear that I think they're the main reason people complained about lack of bass.

The K400's pads were so worn that the fabric was loose. They made every every one of the headphones sound the best.

The K601 pads use flimsy plastic for the tab that locks them in place. It's a real PITA. I never tried K701 pads, but from my experience with the K601, I'd go with the K701.

But really, I'd keep the worn K501 pads. Just wash them if it needs it. I wouldn't replace them unless they were falling apart.

Yeah I noticed that too regarding the pads. But there was a certain liquid smooth and rich tone to the K400 that I still liked better than the K500 I had. Well to be honest, they were both K500's but one had more worn pads, and K400 drivers. And it sounded much better. Maybe it was a unique beast though.

It would be interesting to put the K501 pads through the washing machine a few times and see if they sound better

Mate, you are right, I've try to do some stupid thing....removing the stock pad of my K501, and put the headphone straight on my head without the pad, and the result is...wowowowowow, the bass is so punchy and I can trun the volume down, so that I won't feel harshing after a long period of listening, but... as you know, it's very uncomfortable without the pad, but seriously sounds a lot better,
