Hi

I need to connect a line level signal into my Tivoli model 1

Trouble is the signal end up so much louder than when you are using it as an FM radio. I want to reduce the signal

What resistance do I use (Line inputs seem to have high kOhm impedence) and how do I construct the cable (1/8" to 1/8"): that is does the resistor go inline in series or between the signal and ground, in parallel?

Make a voltage divider...

Left channel to R1 to Attenuated left channel to R2 to ground

Right channel to R3 to attenuated right channel to R4 to ground.

R2/(R1+R2) = R4/(R3+R4)=attenuation factor.

That's it! Of course

I have a PhD, but you can tell it is not in electronics!

I found this (with your suggestion, thanks!)

OK, so the ratio gives the attenuation. Any input on the absolute values of R1 and R2. This wont change the attenuation, but is there a sensible choice for what the output expects to 'see'. The line inputs are normally kOhm impedence aren't they?
