If someone here can send me the proper files for the ipod photo firmware, so I can drag and drop them in, I would be very deeply appreciative of your kindness.

I have an ipod here with my spare h120 HDD in it and the computer wont recognize it,... in fact it I get a error type screen when turned on.

So I have the HDD in my h120 so the computer will pick up on it, but now I need the files to get the ipod to work. itunes obviously wont work with iriver

Use "Ipod Wizard 3.0" to manually re-flash the firmware. I used this when I accidentally bricked my video ipod.

Ipod firmware is installed in a flash bank on the Ipod motherboard and can be manually flashed with custom firmware. You don't need to put anything on the CF card.

I don't know where to get the firmware though. I will look around though.

EDIT: Found the photo firmware HERE

HERE'S HOW TO REFLASH:

So you need three things: 1) Ipod firmware, 2) IPW 3.0, 3) and a functional ipod.

1) Plug the ipod in and let it sit a few seconds.
2) Now open up the task manager and close a service called "IpodService.exe" and "Itunes.exe".
3) Now open up Ipod Wizard and verify you have the correct firmware before proceeding any further.
4) You'll see a drop down box in the upper left corner, click it and select "Firmware File".
4) Click the browse button and find your firmware. Take care to make sure it is the correct version.

CAUTION : Close out all open programs and make sure your internet browser is closed.

5) Now click "Write to Ipod" and then select Yes in the pop up menu.
6) Wait a few seconds until it tells you that it is done flashing.
7) Once done, click the "Eject" button in the upper right corner. DO NOT DISCONNECT IPOD YET.
8) Let the ipod restart and then click eject again.

Congrats you now have reflashed your firmware!! Your Ipod should be as good as new now!

Sorry man...

The only thing I can think of is finding a friend with a photo and dumping his firmware, then flashing it to your Ipod.

I'll keep looking though.

EDIT: Try this link. The firmware should be within the exe file. All you need to do is use WinRAR to unzip the exe and find the firmware (hopefully this works).

thanks zombie I'll d/l it and save it for future use. I was able to install the cf into a mini and use the mini's microdrive with ata adaptor in the 4g photo.

Rockbox that mofo.

That is also possible. I believe it is better than the stock firmware by far.
