I currently have the Ultrasone hfi580 and love them but i am looking to upgrade. I would like to spend 200 but can go up to 250. I listen to mainly rap like Kanyes old stuff, Kid cudi, Lupe fiasco and so on so bass is important. Sometimes i listen to bands such as Evansescense and Earlyrise so female vocals are important. I was looking at the HFI2400 and the hifiman he300. I have closed cans and iems already so i wonder if open is the way to go this time, but ive heard if i want bass i need to go closed. I like bass but dont want the mids or highs to be sacrificed. Anybody have any suggestions?

THANKS!!!!

Once in a while if you wait for a big holiday, certain website have 15% off coupons that lets you grab the V-Moda M-100 for 250. Otherwise, for the genres you listen to, I actually dont think theres much of a good upgrade over the 580s unless you hit the 300 dollar range. (Or go used, then Senn Momentum, Philips X1 are within reach, you may also like the WS99).

Never heard the 2400 or HE300, but I have extensively listened to the PRO900 and the HE400 (which is pretty awesome but not as good as the Senn HD600 imo). I don't think any Ultrasone is going to be significantly better than the 580 until you reach hte PRO900. Based on what 2400 users say, I see the 2400 as more of a lateral move from the 580 (wider soundstage, less bass). The HE300 may be worth a look at, keep in mind it does not have a planar magnetic driver like the HE400/500.

Honestly I recommend getting an amp, or save up and get a PRO900 or Vmode-M100 instead of the ones you mentioned. You would get a lot more mileage out of the upgrade. Just my 2 cents. Good luck :D

It's  higher fidelity, smoother bass, more forward mids (although still recessed compared to some balanced cans), and darker highs. The 580s are pretty awesome for their price range, its like a basshead's version of the ATH M50s. In fact thats my recommended set for entry level $100-150 cans for EDM lovers.
