So after a lot of research I have come to 5 final contestants for my new cans. I am looking for a closed back over ear headphones with good isolation and base for ~$275-400. I'm going to list them and what I found be concerning

  1. Focal Spirit Classic --- http://www.head-fi.org/products/focal-spirit-classic-closed-back-circumaural-hi-fi-headphones
I haven't found anything troubling except the lack of reviews
  1. Mad Dog Pro ---- https://mrspeakers.com/product/mad-dog-pro/
It is ambiguous to whether these are closed or semi closed cans. They are also $50 over budget
  1. Bowers & Wilkins P7 Headphones --- http://www.head-fi.org/products/bowers-wilkins-p7
These have been said to be over priced and right now they are at full price on amazon
  1. Audio Technica ATH-ES10 --- http://www.head-fi.org/products/audio-technica-ath-es7-portable-headphones-white
Said to have a long burn in and uncomfortable and lack of reviews
  1.  SONY Stereo Headphones --- http://www.head-fi.org/products/sony-mdr-z1000
Honestly nothing I can find, but for some reason they seem a little unremarkable

I'm just going to say straight out that amps and DAC's are not my area of expertise so I don’t know how that plays into buying new headphones, so any help on that would be appreciated

Well I'm just going to list what I want in the headphones

Must haves:
Sound Quality
Isolation
Comfort
Bass centered
Durability

Should Haves:
Portability
Aesthetics
Durability
By able to be powered by a ~

Uses:
75% Music- 20% games- 5% on the go

My Story (if you care):
So basically I am moving to a dorm next year and don't want to disturb my roommate or hear my surroundings when I'm studying so isolation is key. My current cans are the MDR-MA100 and they are about as open as they get, but they also lack base which a lot of my music contains, so base leaning headphones would be a huge plus. Also the ma100’s are extremely comfortable so a comfortable pair cans would be a big plus also. They will be on the go a little so aesthetics would be nice but certainly aren’t necessary but it would be nice. Finally these are going to have to last a long while as I will be a broke college student.

Anyways all I need is that people who have any tried/know about/owned these to tell me if they wouldn't be a good fit in any aspect. Imma peace out with an excerpt of my last post

Headphones
·         Budget - $275-400
·         Source - whatever portable amp/dac you guys help find
·         Requirements for Isolation - I'm living in a dorm next year so a lot
·         Preferred Type of Headphone - Closed over-ear/on (preferably over)
·         Current headphones - Mdr-ma100 (not in stock anymore but was $200)
·         Preferred Music - Alternative and more base heavy
·         Usage - For mainly music and games and they will be on the go like only %5 of the time.
·         Extra context - I definitely need this to be a more bass centered headphones as my current ones appeal more to my treble based music. The VMODA M100 are basically the perfect headphones for me as far as I can tell, but I'm not convinced on their audio quality and there is still $150 lest i my budget.

Amp/DAC
Budget - ~$100
Requirements - portable
Other - I've been eyeing the FiiO E07k and the FiiO E17 but I'm not sure what the difference is besides the price
Extra - I'm sure I'll need a Amp, but I not not to sure what a DAC will do for me

Here is my order of importance
1. Sound Quality
2. Isolation
3. Portability
4. Comfort
5. Bass
6. Aesthetics
Anyways thanks a lot for the help

Hi Urban, Your current can's are very basic, but if your content, like me, to stay in the Sony line then I'd look at the new MDR 1A. It's getting good reviews, is super comfortable and is posited to be an upgrade from the ex 1000 template. It would have ye olde sony build quality, is 90% closed and at only 24ohms would probably not need an amp. The e17 is an upgrade from the e7 in SQ, but I'd worry about durability in the long run. It's good at it's price point, but won't enlarge the sound stage hugely. The E12a is good for an amp, but the same applies.

+1 to staying withing the sony line, I have the MDR-7506's and am considering the 7520's  because of how much I love the sound signature.

You can cross the P7 off the list.
It doesn't offer more (sometimes less than the others) despite being more expensive.
