I bought a luna 16 core cable from china and the headphone jack is shorted out. instead of dealing with china and postage want to try and fix. I have never done anything like this before so maybe better taking it somewhere to fix??? any step by step guide? being 16 core braid it has 4 strands once removed from 3.5mm jack. all the wires were glued not soldered on and I cant tell which strand does what....

Start looking through the DIY Cable and Comments thread right here in the DIY section. You'll find the answers in there.

1. I doubt seriously the wires are glued. It's probably just a solder joint that you don't recognize as such. Maybe the flux is obscuring the joint, could be a new type of ROHS solder, etc.
2. Unfortunately, you're not going to find anyone - unless it's a friend or relative - to fix a cable and connector for any sort of economic price that you'd be willing to pay (less than buying another cable).
