I currently have sr60, would like to know if buying alessandro ms1 or sr225 would be worth the money. I will be using these exclusively for rock. How big a difference will I hear from sr60 to ms1 to sr225. I'd much rather get the ms1 since its half the price of the sr225 but I might get the sr225 if its alot better than ms1. I'm also considering the audio technica a500 and a900. I've read a few threads and they all point to sr225 as the best rock can. Using sr225 as reference, how do the other cans compare?

Are you going to be using an amp? Grado 225s benefit quite a bit from a good amp and you may need one to get the full effect of the upgrade from the 60s.

I'm using 225s with a Gilmore Lite and am very happy with the sound. I think it's a tough combo to beat for rock music.

i am looking at the 60's/ms1/or senn 515 or 555....these are all mid-range. what would you suggest out of all these for an mp3 player (i don't wanna have to use an amp). also, i have a zen micro. any advice will be appreciated, even if it's another set all together. TIA!

i've been reading post for the past couple hours and have heard everything. now, i just wanna make up my mind.

tmack, plz dont hijack my thread, I'd like the discussion to stay on comparison between ms1, 225 and the at's

I have the 555 and it works well without amp but amp definately improves it... alot. It's a nice all around can. Without amp, I'd still prefer 555 over the sr60 for any kind of music. The 515 is more like 580 than the 555 from what i've read and overall a poor performer.

From what I've read the MS-1 is a Grado 125 that is tweaked to smooth out the highs a bit. A Grado 225 is a Grado 225 and generally thought very highly of. I haven't heard the MS-1s so I couldn't give you a head-to-head comparison.
