Friend of mine sold me his KRK VXT 8 speakers for really cheap, like less than half what they cost new, so I went ahead and bought them knowing I have no way to connect balanced inputs. I have an Asus Xonar Essence STX II sound card with RCA outputs but these speakers use balanced inputs only. I have been trying to do research on converting them but I don't know the ins and outs of this. I was reading that the level of RCA output is lower than the level the balanced inputs expect and I need a device to convert between the 2 properly so they are loud enough and sound correct. What device do you guys recommend to properly convert between the 2 so I do not lose any sound quality?

Do I need a device like this? Sescom SES-ON-THE-LEVEL RCA to XLR Audio Level Converter  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1023558-REG/sescom_ses_on_the_level_rca_to_xlr.html
To have the audio level correct?

Or can I just buy a cable with Male RCA's on 1 end and male XLR's on the other end and it will just be right? Such as this cable Seismic Audio Dual XLR Male to Dual RCA Male 10 Foot Patch Cable - 10' Cord  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seismic-Audio-Dual-XLR-Male-Dual-RCA-Male-10-Foot-Patch-Cable-10-Cord-/141764710446?hash=item2101d5d02e

Do I need the extra 125 dollar device to get the levels correct or will a direct connection with a simple 20 dollar cable give me proper sound?

Hmmmm is this the right site to ask this? How am i going to find this info? -sigh-
