First timer here, thought you guys would be the go-to's for advice. I've been using the Sony MDREX58V EX Series Earbud Headphones (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDREX58V-BLK-Earbud-Headphones/dp/B004RE3YU8/ref=sr_1_8?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1381422190&sr=1-8&keywords=sony+headphones) for some time now and I really want to move up to some regular headphones.

The earbuds I've been using have a wide frequency response of  5 - 23,000 Hz, that was my main reason for picking them up in the first place, but it turns out they have great clarity on highs and mids and the bass itself very clear.

So now that I'm looking at regular headphones instead of earbuds, I was hoping to replicate that level of quality, but that's turning out to be a pretty hard task.

So what I'm looking for:
Frequency Response that goes to around 22-23 KHz (don't need anything higher than that)
Portable/Works well with Ipod, laptop etc.
Good clarity

What I mostly listen to: Electronic (not much dubstep), Rock, Metal

I'm not really interested in extra bass, so long as the bass is in balance with the highs/mids. And ideally I'm in the price range of around $100 (so I'm not expecting anything amazing), but if the headphones are truly worth it then I can go above that.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to test suggested headphones out myself, but that's probably unlikely. The only place around where I can do that is Bestbuy, and their selection has been pretty bad (I was originally looking at some of the newer Sony phones they have out, but they just don't have the clarity on the highs that the buds do).

Thanks for whatever advice/help/suggestions you can give.

JVC HA-S500, $60.

Awesome, thanks. From the reviews and the fan-thread, sounds like it's right up my alley

The JVC HA-S500 uses the same size (almost same size?) ear pads as some Audio Technica headphones, so you can find different types of ear pads (Leather & Velour) for the JVC, for around $15, on eBay.
