Hey all, first post.

I have a Macbook pro running 3.5mm into the old logitech z2000 [?] series, and i think it sucks. I need a new set.

I am looking for a 2.1 - 4.1 set under 300$... what are your thoughts on the best speaker setup for gaming/music? Also, I am going to be in a smallish dorm, so please keep space into consideration.

Also, quick blurbs about your opinions on the ultrasone hfi-700s

Straight to non muddy/low quality bass with hifi sub and an amp + passive means you could upgrade to higher end bookshelf/floor standers in future so options open up later

The Swan M50W. I got these about a week ago and hopefully will be posting some pics and impressions in the next few days.

i meant, sonically. sound quality wise

EDIT

also, don't i need a preamp/driver of some sort?

I've never used Klipsch speakers.
My buddy had Klipsch 4.1 setup on his computer and really liked them.
I've only heard good things said about Klipsch stuff
I've even heard good reviews on this Promedia 2.1
I believe they are being sold at close out prices because Klipsch is introducing a new wireless version.

No need for any preamp/driver, it just plugs into your current sound card.
I'm going to guess your current Logitech Z2000 is getting worn out, but should be able to sell it for a few dollars.
