I got the headphones yesterday, after about 15 minutes of wearing them my ear lobes start to hurt and after about 40 I must take them off. So it seems I need new ear pads. Which ones are the most comfortable and soft?

Also is there any way to make the stock ones any softer/ more comfortable? I put the headphones on some books for about 20 hours but they are just as tight.

A lot of Superlux headphones, use the same size ear pads as the AKG K240/241/270/271 headphones (& Samson SR850).
Velour ear pads made by AKG (for the K240) can cost up to $46.
Here are some generic Velour ear pads (China)

Those look similar to these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Velvet-universal-Cushion-K271MK-Beyerdynamic/dp/B00GMISIGM/ref=pd_sim_MI_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=08DBDTPHYPFM13MTFTQ8 and don't come from China.

For about £3 more I could get the AKG pads http://www.thomann.de/gb/akg_k240270271_velour_ohrpolster.htm They all look extremely similar to me. What are their difference?

There's also:
http://www.thomann.de/gb/akg_k701_ohrpolster.htm  and

I would not buy the Amazon UK listing, as it sells the exact same set of pads for the AKG and Beyers.
The AKG (and Samson & Superlux) use a slightly larger ear pad then the Beyer (DT770/DT880/DT990).

I bought my AKG K240 Velour ear pads from Thomann, I use them with my Samson SR850 and AKG K240M Monitor (600-ohm) headphones.
I ordered stuff in bulk from Thomann (UK) and had it shipped to California, so my total cost per pair of velours was $25 (18.3 Euros), normal USA price is $46.

The AKG K701 & K702 pads are priced for a single, while the AKG K240 Velours are priced per pair.

I've just noticed that with delivery it's £21! That's a bit too expensive. Are those Chinese ones just as good?

I'm guessing the generic Velour ear pads are not as good as the name brand AKG ear pads.
But should still be fairly good, for the price.

I bought some Chinese velour pads for a pair of these ($15, I live in the US) and I won't say I can compare them to the K240 pads by Thomann, but compared to the velours on my Sennheiser HD558s, they're not quite as nice. That said, they are miles ahead of the stock ones for comfort in my opinion, just the velour isn't quite as soft or high-quality as the ones on my Senns. The padding in the Chinese ones are alright though, no real complaints from me there.

This is the pads I bought :

I just replaced it with the stock ones and I must say I'm seriously impressed by how much improved the comfort is.
The pads fit perfectly!
