Hi, I'm picking a pair of headphones as a gift. It has to be closed, usable without the necessity for an amplifier and suitable for rock music. My budget is 150 euro at the most.

I've narrowed my search down to A900, DT770/80ohm and 271S as they all cost about the same. After reading some posts regarding these phones, it seems that A900 and DT770 suffer from sucked out mids and 271S has somewhat lighter bass plus it is more difficult to drive than the other two. I'm currently inclined to A900s. What would you recommend me?

PS: I might consider DT990 too as they seem to be kind of semi-open but they probably need a decent amplification to shine (I was very intrigued by amartignano's review

).

Edit: The music which it'd be used with comprises mainly of 70's rock (i. e. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd ... ) and Tom Waits

What kind of unamped use exactly? If you need a phone for soundcard use, I'd recommend to try the Beyerdynamic DT250/250...

Greetings from Hannover!
