I seached the archives and have soaked up as much info on ASIO as I can. A coupke other questions were asked by other members that I would alos like to know, but were never really covered.

I thought the reason (partially) to move to an outboard DAC using the USB was to eliminate other programs in the audio path. Reading some of the great explanations of ASIO, it seems this is wrong. Programs like Kmixer are still in the path?

If this is the case, I would imagine that using ASIO would in fact be cleaner.

Yes?

the primary reason users go to outboard, at least in my experience, is the general tech-phobia surrounding the personal computer

it doesn't change or simplify the software path one lick (and anyone who tells you otherwise should share whatever they're smoking)

ASIO's primary purpose is low latency monitoring, not improving sound quality, and the claimed benefits are based on subjective opinions, not rooted in substantiated fact (period.)

you can utilize ASIO with any device sporting proper ASIO drivers, or with a driver wrapper (such as ASIO4All)
